Grand Opening of the Pfizer Plant Research Laboratory
On Tuesday May 16, 2006 The New York Botanical Garden celebrated the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Pfizer Plant Research Laboratory . This new $23 million laboratory will provide highly advanced scientific research facilities for molecular systematics, plant genomics, and graduate studies. This 2-story 26,000 SF facility was designed by Polshek Partnership Architects, LLP and built by E.W. Howell Co., Inc . Working on a fast paced schedule of 18 months, the E.W. Howell project team overcame various challenges in an effort to meet and exceed the project schedule, while ensuring that the vision and standards of the design team were met for this state-of-the-art facility.
The Pfizer Plant Research Laboratory will be the largest and finest research facility of any botanical garden in the United States . A multi day program, In Celebration of Science being held on May 16, 2006 will mark the grand opening of the Pfizer Plant Research Laboratory. The celebration will continue through May 21, 2006 with laboratory tours open to the public, lectures, demonstrations and over events. The Pfizer Laboratory is part of the science campus which is a 23-acre section of the Botanical Garden's 250-acre National Historic Landmark Site.
