Brookhaven National Laboratory – Research Support Building (RSB)
In October 2006, E.W. Howell completed the Research Support Building (RSB) at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY. This two story building occupies 64,054 SF and consolidates frequently visited administrative and support functions in a single location. Ehasz Giacalone Architects P.C., designed the building which features a glass atrium-style lobby connecting two wings of offices covered by a metal panel façade.
The Research Support Building (RSB) has a LEED silver certification and is Brookhaven Lab’s first LEED project. The project features a high performance insulation system, facilities for people who commute by bike, preservation of open spaces, and subdued outdoor lighting which meets the needs of the occupants, and does not produce unnecessary light pollution.
