On May 11, 2016 E.W. Howell Construction Group celebrated its 125th anniversary at The New York Botanical Garden’s Founders Award Dinner. It was a co celebration with The New York Botanical Garden which was also founded in 1891. The two companies have collaborated on several projects together including the Leon Levy Visitor Center, Pfizer Plant Research Laboratory, Native Plant Garden, and the Hudson Garden Grill. E.W. Howell is also currently working on The Green Zone project which includes a state of the art composting facility.
President, Howard L. Rowland was a co honoree at the Gala along with Gillian and Robert Steel. Gillian has played an important role at The Garden over the years and is currently on The Board of Trustees and Robert is the CEO of Perella Weinberg Partners.
Actress and NYBG Board Member Sigourney Weaver was the host for the evening and helped introduce the speakers including, Thomas E. Lovejoy, PD.D. , Maureen K. Chilton, Gillian and Robert Steel and finally Howard Rowland. Through generous contributions The Garden was able to raise over $1 million for The Science and Conservation Programs. This will provide future generations the opportunity to increase their knowledge on issues such as climate change and plant conservations.
President, Howard Rowland said “New York City is the greatest city in the world and The New York Botanical Garden is, without a doubt, one of its greatest cultural, educational and scientific institutions. Places like the Botanical Garden will always play an important role in New Yorkers lives, and I look forward to collaborating on future projects-building on the work we’ve already achieved together.”
In addition to The New York Botanical Garden, E.W. Howell has worked on many of New York’s cultural institutions including Smithsonian Institution at Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
