Stony Brook Hospital Medical and Research Translation (MART) Building

PROJECT DETAILS

This Stony Brook Hospital project consisted of the construction of the 245,000-square-foot Medical and Research Translation (MART) building and 225,000-square-foot Hospital Pavilion. The 8-story building is devoted to cancer research and care, including the new home for the Stony Brook University Cancer Center. The 10-story Hospital Pavilion contains 150 inpatient beds; 2 of these floors are dedicated to a new Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. The expansion also includes 12 new classrooms and a 300-seat auditorium.

The Medical and Research Translation (MART) building is a transformative model for cancer research and treatment, providing an ideal environment for researchers and doctors to collaborate, investigate and innovate in developing breakthrough cancer medicines, treatments and cures. The eight-story, 240,000-squarefoot MART is located on Stony Brook University’s East Campus, home of Stony Brook Medicine, adjacent to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The facility includes an advanced education center with a modern, 305-seat auditorium that is designed for both live and distance education applications with ten classrooms that can accommodate 300 students.

In addition, the facility has one magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and two positron emission tomography (PET) suites, 38 exam rooms, 7 procedure rooms, a 30-room cancer clinic, a 38-station clinical adult infusion center, 11-private pediatric infusion rooms, 25 cancer biology-oriented laboratories, administrative offices, and support spaces.

The Stony Brook MART project was recognized in Long Island Business News’ 2015 Real Estate & Development Awards, being named Top Educational Development.
